Where the rules come from
Each calculator lists its formula and sources on its own page. Mathematical and unit formulas follow international definitions (for example NIST and ISO). Financial calculators use standard formulas for amortizing loans and compound interest. Health calculators use the World Health Organization adult BMI categories and published equations such as Mifflin–St Jeor. Rule-based calculators, such as the zakat calculator, keep their rules in a versioned file with the date they were last checked, which is shown on the page.
Limits of the results
- Money: results do not include fees, taxes, insurance or changes in rates unless the page says so. Your bank or lender may round differently.
- Health: BMI and calorie estimates are screening tools for adults and do not replace a medical examination.
- Religious matters: zakat rules and Hijri dates follow common, documented methods; scholars and authorities may differ. Follow the opinion and the official announcements you rely on.
- Dates: public holidays are not included in working-day counts.
