How it works
Eid al-Fitr, the festival that ends the month of Ramadan, falls on 1 Shawwal, the tenth Hijri month. The countdown finds the next 1 Shawwal on the Umm al-Qura calendar, converts it to a Gregorian date and counts down to the start of that day on your device.
Expected Eid al-Fitr dates
| Hijri year | Expected Gregorian date |
|---|---|
| 1447 AH | Friday 20 March 2026 |
| 1448 AH | Tuesday 9 March 2027 |
| 1449 AH | Saturday 26 February 2028 |
| 1450 AH | Wednesday 14 February 2029 |
| 1451 AH | Monday 4 February 2030 |
Example. Eid al-Fitr 1445 was on Wednesday 10 April 2024, and Eid al-Fitr 1447 on Friday 20 March 2026. From 5 November 2026, the next Eid al-Fitr (1448) is expected on Tuesday 9 March 2027 — 124 days away.
Why Eid can move by one day
Ramadan lasts 29 or 30 days. On the evening of 29 Ramadan people look for the crescent of Shawwal: if it is seen, the next day is Eid; if not, Ramadan completes 30 days and Eid is the day after. That is why the calculated date and the announced date can differ by a day, and why neighbouring countries sometimes celebrate on different days. Always follow your country’s official announcement.
Before Eid: zakat al-fitr
Zakat al-fitr is due from every Muslim who can afford it and should be paid before the Eid prayer. Its amount is a fixed measure of staple food per person (or its value where scholars allow it), set each year by the religious authority in each country. Your yearly zakat on savings is a separate obligation — calculate it with the zakat calculator.
